The roundtable will be held as part of the International Research and Education Forum dedicated to 30 years of independence of the Central Asian countries “Strategic Goals of Development in Central Asia: History, Trends and Prospects” (23-26 November 2021).
Professor Dr. Victor Dukhovniy – Director of the Scientific-Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia, Executive Director of the EECCA Network of Water Organizations, Honorary Vice-President of ICID, Academician of the Russian Academy of Water Sciences, eminent scientist and organizer of land reclamation and water development - passed away on 14 August 2021.
Prof. Dukhovniy devoted many years to studying challenges and ways to achieve water security in the Central Asian countries as one of strategic priorities for regional survival. Despite growing threats and risks, he was convinced that Central Asia can achieve water, food and energy security and environmental sustainability by 2030, provided that the countries make coordinated intersectoral decisions.
Victor Dukhovniy did a lot for research diplomacy and consolidation of scientists and practitioners, as he believed that by joint and science informed efforts only it would be possible to solve topical problems in the region.
During the roundtable, colleagues and collaborators of Prof. Dukhovniy will address the most pressing issues of water security and key actions to be taken at the national and regional level.
