In all of my workshops, whether they are focused on health, success or mindset, I always start with the importance of hydration. Unfortunately , we as a society are under-educated about water quality in the US and big water corporations are doing a great job at marketing their bottled water to us while convincing us that their water is the best water.
There are gazzilions of bottled water brands, and most of them are not actually as safe for drinking as they’d like you to believe. Although you may think that bottled water is a safer option than tap, two new reports show that the store-bought stuff is actually less regulated than the water you get out of your faucet for free.
Question from Student at Oregon State University: “I just noticed potassium chloride was listed as an ingredient in some bottled waters (Dasani, for example). But I remember from Chemistry and other sources of information KCl are used for lethal injections and are often times hazardous… so why would it be in bottled water?” “If you take everything out of the water, you don’t get the crisp, clean taste that consumers desire,” was the sanguine comment of Kim Price, spokesman for Coca-Cola.
My first recommendation is to install a water filter at your home, and preferably not just for drinking, but for showering and bathing as well, since your skin is the largest organ in your body and it absorbs more chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals during 10 minute shower than from drinking a glass of water. There are many option for filtering water: distillation, reverse osmosis, ionic and alkaline systems, charcoal, and some others. They are different and have different benefits in them. Please do your own research to see which system is aligned with you.
Secondly, make a habit of carrying a glass or stainless steel container with you and leave one in your car to always have some extra water with you on the go. Not only will you save yourself from the carcinogens contained in plastic bottles, but you also save tons of money by having clean water with you, and reduce your impact on the environment by not using plastic bottles.
When you’re traveling it can become more complicated to carry a water container with you, I know this as a frequent flyer. After doing extensive research, I have found out that the cleanest water comes in glass bottles of European brands. I have seen them in most major airports and health food stores. They could be a little bit pricier, but this is your body and your health, so you decide what you put in your body. Even while traveling, make sure you carry your glass water container in a piece of luggage and fill up with filtered water as soon as you’ve got the chance. Most hotels or event venues will have water filtration systems that you can fill up from.
How do you feel about what water corporations are putting in their bottled water?
