WP-5: Participative scenario analysis, testing of regional model and integrated evaluation of sustainable development of water management in the Oueme basin

Objectives

  • Analysis of the institutional framework of water resources management and identification of long-term water management goals and sustainability indicators
  • Supply and downscaling of climate data and climate scenarios to the Oueme basin
  • Modifications of the modeling framework with stakeholders and potential users
  • Adapting and testing the integrated regional model need of the stakeholders and users in the Oueme basin incl. training of end users
  • Developing scenarios of water management for the establishment of river basin management plans

Description of work

In the Oueme basin the same participative methodology will be used as in the Neckar basin, to develop alternative scenarios for sustainable water management. The integrated model MOSDELII will be adpated to the needs of the involved parties. The institutional framework will be analysed and a scenario group will be established as in the Neckar basin. The river basin group acts under the supervision of the river basin group leader. The scenarios prepared by the scenario group will be submitted to the simulation runs of the integrated model, which has to be adapted to the local needs and data requirements, using downscaled climate scenarios. The resulting scenario simulations showing the impact of the storylines on water supply, water quality and regional economy will be presented and readjusted with river basin organisations. The final alternative scenarios will be then presented publicly. Working in close consultation with the local population and their representative organisations will ensure a transparent project information policy and facilitate identification with and acceptance of the project goals.

Deliverables

  • Highly resoluted climate scenarios from stochastical model until 2030 for the Oueme river basin
  • Adapted and integrated model for the Oueme river basin, including model documentation and training of users
  • Final report on alternative scenarios of sustainable development of water management for the Oueme basin

Milestones and expected results

  • Expert consultations
  • Workshop
  • River basin working group with relevant institutions established
  • Rules and Model to classify atmospheric pressure data in objective circulation patterns, stochastical model to generate spatially highly resolved meteorological input data for the Oueme
  • Seminars with stakeholders and end users
  • First draft of scenarios to be discussed with stakeholders
  • Integrated model built up phase in the Oueme basin
  • Result of first scenario simulation runs with integrated model
  • Presentation of preliminary results of scenario runs to the stakeholders and policy makers
  • Final scenario versions presented and discussed with policy makers, stakeholders and river basin committees
