F. KULOV ASKS FOR DEBATES ON PRIVATIZATION OF ENERGY SECTOR TO BE POSTPONED
Kyrgyz Prime Minister Felix Kulov has asked the parliament to postpone debates on the privatization of the energy sector by one month," Speaker Marat Sultanov said on Monday.
"The government wants to submit draft terms of privatizing distribution companies alongside a draft program for the fourth stage in the privatization of Kyrgyzenergo," Sultanov said.
The parliament backed the prime minister's request, but some deputies argued that before the debate, the government must inform the parliament about how the first three stages of the privatization of the energy sector are being implemented. This issue will soon be discussed by the parliamentary committee for industrial sectors, Sultanov said.
The fourth stage in the privatization of Kyrgyzenergo provides for the privatization of distribution companies. One of the largest distribution companies, Severelektro, is to be leased out in concession.
