This year the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) celebrates 10 years of environmental expertise. As part of the activities to commemorate the occasion, CAREC will hold an Anniversary Retreat at the “Meridian” resort in the village of Bulan-Sogottu, Issyk-Kul on 20-22 July. The event program features “CAREC Staff- Stakeholder Consultations” and Board and Signatories meetings.
Throughout the decade of experience, CAREC has assisted the Central Asian countries in: the implementation of a number of initiatives in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development, establishing and supporting activities of expert and partner networks, introducing best environmental practices as well as building capacities and disseminating environmental information.
The draft Ministerial Declaration of the 7th Pan-European Conference "Environment for Europe" to be held in Astana on 21-23 September 2011, as approved at the Special Session of the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy, May 24-27, 2011, states: "We recognize the role of RECs in cooperation and implementation of initiatives, and call to strengthen and encourage their contributions toward the green economy and better environmental management at local, national, sub-regional and regional levels,” which is a principal recognition accorded to CAREC and other RECs.
The Anniversary Retreat is a unique opportunity for CAREC employees, founders, managers, partners and colleagues, to evaluate the 10 years of activity and outline future plans for the development of CAREC.
