MINISTERS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN AND IRAN HOLD TALKS IN ASHGABAT

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the talks with a high level delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Interior Minister Mostafa Najjar, who arrived on a working visit to Ashgabat.

According to the press release issued by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the sides noted with satisfaction the steady growth of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Iran, as well as the importance of a number of major joint projects, supporting economic prosperity throughout the region that are being implemented by the two countries. Among them are the construction of the railway “Tejan-Sarakhs-Mashad”, the pipeline “Korpedzhe-Gurtguyy”, “Dovletabat-Sarahs-Hangeran”, " the transmission line “Balkanabat-Ali-Abad”, the water reservoir “Dostluk”, the construction of the railway “Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan –Iran” and fiber optic line “ TransAsia-Europe.”

The sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, as well as further cooperation in ensuring peace and security in the region.

TURKMENISTAN TO STRENGTHEN SANITARY CONTROL OVER QUALITY OF DRINKING WATER IN REGIONS

Some regions of Turkmenistan, including Ashgabat, lack good quality drinking water, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a working video-conference call with the heads of provinces on July 4.

According to the President, providing the population with quality drinking water is one of the most urgent tasks of the government. He pointed to the need for greater control over the sanitary condition of drinking and industrial water and making all necessary steps for this.

Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan Gurbanmammet Elyasov was instructed to keep this issue under personal control.
