DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTERS OF CENTRAL ASIAN STATES MEET IN ASHGABAT

The third annual Meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, organized by the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), took place in Ashgabat today.

According to the official press release, during the meeting, issues of enhancing regional cooperation and facilitating close interaction between the UNRCCA and Central Asian states with a view to consolidating joint efforts to prevent and eliminate threats to stability and sustainable development in the region were discussed.

Central Asian foreign ministry representatives were updated by the Head of the UNRCCA on the Centre’s activities in 2010. They also identified priorities for the Centre’s activities for the current year. There was a constructive exchange of views on the situation in the region from the security perspective and the new Programme of Action of the UNRCCA, which will form the basis for its initiatives in the next three-year cycle (2012-2014).

During the discussion, the participants touched upon issues such as the fight against trans-boundary crime, extremism, drug-trafficking, developments in Afghanistan, the situation in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the management of common natural resources and environmental security

TURKMENISTAN TO PURCHASE MOST ADVANCED EQUIPMENT FOR WATER PURIFICATION

The Government of Turkmenistan will explore the world market of water treatment technologies and equipment to arrange for the purchase of equipment for settlements of the country. With this in mind, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov issued instructions for Deputy Prime Ministers Myratgeldi Akmyradov and Deryageldi Orazov.

The head of state emphasized the need to enhance measures aimed at the implementation of the General Programme on ensuring supplies of clean drinking water to the settlements of Turkmenistan, which was adopted earlier this year.

As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, members of the government were also instructed to set the deadline for assembling and commissioning of equipment for the supply of clean drinking water to the settlements of the country and prepare a special programme.
