Source: Turkmenistan.ru, 4.02.2011

A new hydraulic engineering complex – the Yylgynagyz main engine channel was put into operation in Lebap province of Turkmenistan. The channel will allow for uninterrupted water supply to 40,000 hectares of irrigated virgin fields in Yylgynagyz and Akaltyn plots of land located on the upper levels of the right bank of the Amu Darya river. This major investment project has been implemented by Turkmen construction organizations together with JSC “Gidromashservice” from the Russian Federation and “II Water Wastewater AB” company from Sweden.

As noted in the official statement, the new complex will ensure that all issues related to disruptions and shortages of water for irrigation of lands of farmers' associations in Dovletli and Beyik Turkmenbashi districts never come up. If need be, the Yylgynagyz main engine channel can receive up to 35 cubic meters of Amu Darya water per second, two times higher than in the past.

The opening ceremony of the Yylgynagyz main engine channel was attended by Turkmen President Gurabnguly Berdimuhamedov. The traditional festive meal was given on this occasion. The best workers of water management industry were awarded valuable gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan.
