TURKMENISTAN ADOPTS GENERAL PROGRAMME TO ENSURE CLEAN DRINKING WATER IN SETTLEMENTS OF TURKMENISTAN

A General Programme for providing clean drinking water for cities and towns of Turkmenistan was adopted at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. A decree signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructs ministries and line agencies, administrations of the regions and the city of Ashgabat to implement this programme.

As the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat, the General Programme has been developed by a special state commission comprised of leading experts from relevant ministries and departments, including agriculture and water resources, as well as the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and provincial administrations.

The President of Turkmenistan also signed a decree approving the standard volume of water consumption by provinces, districts and cities of Turkmenistan in 2011 to ensure prudent and efficient use of water resources.

EU INTENDS TO DEEPEN RELATIONS WITH TURKMENISTAN

“Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are key partners for the European Union within in the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian Strategy, and we want to deepen our relations with them,” European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said on the eve of his visit to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. He was quoted by APA news agency with reference to the EU Delegation in Azerbaijan.

“We share a strong interest in long-term security and diversification of our energy supply and demand. This requires the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor that will bring natural gas directly from the Caspian region to European consumers. I am confident that together we can create necessary conditions for this strategic initiative,” the head of the European Commission said.

It should be recalled that President Barroso will visit Azerbaijan on January 13, and will head to Turkmenistan on January 14.
