Announcement about Central Asian International Scientific-Practical Conference
Climate change, water resources management, governance and capacity building issues in Central Asia
The 5th World Water Forum organized by the World Water Council (WWC) is to be held in Istanbul in March 2009. The World Water Council gathers some 300 member organizations throughout the world (Intergovernmental organizations; Government and governmental authorities; Enterprises and facilities; Civil society organizations and water user associations; Professional associations and academic institutions). The World Water Forum is an international water-related event aimed at putting water firmly on the international agenda. A three-year preparatory process culminates in one week of sessions, debates and cultural activities, where water experts come together. In Istanbul the three levels of political decision makers are expected to come together in order to seek common solutions to achieve water security and to set the agenda aimed at utilising water as a motor for development. The 5th World Water Forum aims at “bridging divides” between all regions, all stakeholders, all sectors of the world. A most important goal is to bridge the gap between the technical and political communities at all levels. It is planned to assemble the greatest possible variety of people to discuss common solutions to critical issues. Central Asian water experts have been collaborating with the World Water Council and took active part in preparatory processes and in water forums themselves, starting from 2nd World Water Forum in Hague, The Netherlands; 3rdWorld Water Forum in Kyoto, Japan; and, 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City, Mexico. The Organizing Committee of 5th World Water Forum and the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry supported ICWC’s proposal on holding of the Central Asian International Scientific-Practical Conference Climate change, water resources management, governance and capacity building issues in Central Asia together with the Kyrgyz Government in Bishkek in May 28-29, 2008.
